Fridays LIVE! : Late Night Edition

Recently, I think that my goal in business is to learn more about photography through any experience that I can.  I think that I have been saying that over and over the past few weeks- but it is the truth.  Being new to business compared to my mentors in the industry I feel driven to learn and to grow any way that I can.  Maybe we are not making enough (yet) to buy the best equipment that money can buy, maybe I cannot afford to pay thousands to travel and learn from the best (yet), and maybe it is just all about digging deep and doing the best I can and learning any way possible.  Why? to do what I love, and to have the most amazing experiences with clients and friends.  Ah!  I love this job!

Anyway, as seen in the last post we are playing a lot with no flash and low light situations.  Last weekend, while at Lake Martin in Alabama for Easter, I had another chance to play.  These are a few quick shots taken between basketball games Saturday night…just before Duke took their next step toward victory!

The sky in these images is INSANE!  It was SO dark out, but the camera was still able to pull out all that light.  Cameras are magic, they really are, they are so cool!  Anyway, I am looking forward to sharing our first engagement session of the season with you all next week, and getting this wedding season party started!  Holllaaaa!

The sky is the limit…

Patti - WOW! Is that our cabin? The owner may like some of those shots when it goes back on the market.

Swain Gala 2010 : Masquerade

This is the second year that we have been able to attend the Annual Swain Gala.  You can catch up on last years images RIGHT HERE.  This year was a masquerade and we got to see a lot of great costumes!  You can tell that everyone that comes looks forward to this night and takes great care in planning great outfits!  I thought that it would be fun to share a few from that night with you all here.

We shot all night with no flash, as practice in low light situations.  It was great fun catching all the fun colors from the lighting! This first dude totally creeped me out…eeeww!  So, naturally, I needed to ask him for a photo…haha!

Patti - What is the Swain Gala?

I have not ever been one to “win” things, but live a life full of hope it will happen one day!  Haha!  We entered the 2010 Professional Photographer Photo Contest, and sure would love your vote!  http://www.ppmag.com/cover-contest-2010/vote/4358/

Here is the photo we entered…our sweet friend Whitney, who has allowed us to blast her photos all over the internet world!  I just love this picture, and it always makes me remember how much fun and laughter surrounded that day!

Margarita - I voted!

Chris Morgan - Whitney is absolutely the most beautiful bride ever!

Marilyn Richards - I am registered and waiting to vote. Whitney is gorgeous and your photography is the next best thing to actually being there and being part of the most perfect wedding, enjoying the happiest celebration with the most loving people we know. Grama

Backyard Inspiration

Two things are fabulous about this time of year: being outside and grilling out.  I love them both!  The other night we were outside grilling dinner, and that turned into eating outside.  What a great night to be together, but also to enjoy the season.  The pollen is already starting to take over… and the bugs are on the way.  Although, I will taken pollen and bugs over snow and cold.

I have been challenging myself to take more pictures.  That may sound funny, that is what I do all day.  But, I want to take more pictures of life and our surroundings- I want to be inspired by life going on around us.  I hope to take photos with my 50mm lens that tell a story of what I am doing in the moment.  Just a couple images…and a simple story…that create a great memory.  And, maybe learn more about myself and style as that happens.  I guess that starts another mini series…Inspirations.  We’ll see how it goes?  Here are my images from the other night.

Margarita - You have Bruce the Gnome! I’d forgotten that he moved to Atlanta with you!

Fridays LIVE!

Easter edition!  Isn’t it amazing that the weather has turned for the better?!?!  I mean, hello 89 degrees!  It totally feels like April, it feels like Easter weekend, it feels like allergies, it feels like it is time to get to the beach!  (Thank you mom for the call from the beach today!)  Ah, to live at the beach….I did that once in a past life. Haha!  Maybe the Lord will allow that to happen again one day.

Anyway, things are alive and kicking here at ABJ Photography.  We did not let the weather keep us down and out after last weekend.  We had to re-schedule a shoot for next weekend, but I did make it out in the middle of rain sessions to grab a few quick shots.  See previous post.  The enthusiasm is rising as we meet new clients, and gear up for our first wedding in a few weeks.  I feel like it will be here before we know it….and then other times I feel like I am trying to watch water boil…it is not getting here soon enough!  Until then, I am having fun playing with new equipment and handling business….ewww, like taxes.  Ah.  Anyway, it needs to be done right?  I do have a couple fun things to blog in the near future: a masquerade party that we attended last weekend as well as a backyard inspired post from photos taken last night.  But for now, we wish you a lovely Easter and Easter weekend!  These flowers below are from Trader Joe’s…ah, totally SPRING!
