Interior Design Project

A couple weeks ago I was given the opportunity to help out a friend and take some interior design photos.  Lindsey Hene of Lindsey Hene Interior Design let me into her home to document some of her lovely spaces.   They built their Southern Living home recently, and as you will see it is so wonderful.  I love how open the living space is and how she made even the laundry room look cute!  Here are a couple highlights of the session.

More of the journey…

Based on the photo above, and the previous post, can you tell we have new Photoshop Actions to play with?  It has been fun to plug in photos we have taken to see how they look.  I am going to state right here, we are by no means trying to work them into our brand.  I like photos straight up, no fuss, the way that they happened, and I hope that is what you take away from our website.  I am not afraid to have a little fun though, and I am always up for learning something new!   One part of our journey has been learning Photoshop.  It is a tricky monster if you go in blind.  Thanks to the Internet, and understanding color correction from previous work in photo labs, I think that I have a good handle on the program.  It ain’t easy though, and we have come a long way…David and I.

Another part of our journey as ABJ Photography has been building our business debt free!  We buy new equipment when we can, and we rent the stuff we love locally at PPR.  We are excited about our new friend the 50mm 1.2 (used on photo above)!  This is a huge asset to our business, and a wonderful go-to lens.  I use it all the time, so we knew that it would be a great place to start our lens arsenal.  I cannot wait to use it to showcase some of our new photo books!  Check back soon for those….

My belated Valentine

I have no shame putting this post up one day after Valentine’s Day.  What is the point of the holiday if you only celebrate it one day?  That is why I like Christmas and Thanksgiving…you get to celebrate their happiness more than one day.  I would not call David and I “Valentines” kinda people anyway.  I do not expect more than a good meal, and we get those all the time, so it is kind of  like we celebrate love all year.  Maybe that is why I love him so much- I get to be his Valentine all year.  And, Tess is well aware that she is loved.  So we all win.

It never hurts to say it out loud though, or even on the internet.

My Birthday Snow

Sorry for my lack of blogging!  I get so excited when I have new photos to share, and when I have time to sit and blog new stuff!  But, we have been busy working, meeting new clients, and going to scheduled events… so getting time to share new stuff online just has not happened as often as I would like.

In other news, yesterday was my birthday…the big 2-8!  All of Atlanta was buzzing, not because of me, but because of the glorious snow that we got all afternoon!  I must admit it was so great to not have rain!  It was enough to get out, build a snowman, take some pictures, and watch the neighborhood turn into a winter wonderland.  Also, very appropriate for the opening of the winter Olympics.  The news guy said that 49 of our 50 states had some accumulation of snow yesterday.  I kinda feel bad leaving Hawaii out.

By the time David got home (around 3pm) Tess and I were dying to get out and play and take some photos!  I was having some trouble getting Tess to look at me for a picture.  Sometimes she just wants to play…like other dogs…and not have her photo taken.  But, with David’s help she humored me and we had fun enjoying my little birthday gift from the heavens.

I love the many faces of Tess.  Here she is like What? I don’t get what you are saying.

I made Tess play with me.

Then, I made David take pictures of me spinning around…

And, acting like Mary Poppins.

It was a good time.  These two love me well… not sure what I would do without them!  It was a great day all around.

David and I both swapped around the camera some, but he got some great shots later on last night and this morning.  Here are a few, and a slide show of more of our shenanigans.

Featuring : Receptions

I had a wonderful conversation with a bride yesterday that got me thinking…

She asked very thoughtful questions in our conversation regarding our process, products, and how we would fit into the mold of her wedding day.  Then, she asked the question, “can you show me more reception photos”? In my head I had bells going off ding, ding, ding as she continued with the question.  You see, we spend the entire wedding day with couples.  But, we always produce the most images during the reception.  Granted in many cases there is a greater concentration of people, and everyone is free to let loose, dance, eat, and be merry.  It is consistent in my posting, and in the other blogs that I read that we as photographers focus on the details of the reception.  Or, possibly even focusing in on just the bride and groom…all with good reason, those details are important too!

What a great idea to blog about though, and what an opportunity to showcase the people attending the wedding, as well as the couple having a good time post nuptials.  Here are some photos from three weddings we photographed last summer.  Each unique in style and detail.  Each wonderful to look back on…First up, Blake and Katie! Next…Allen and Whitney!

And last but NOT least…Brian and Kelly!

Thanks for indulging me…what a journey.
